2 Old Testament Covenants
God made all the Old Testament covenants as a means of having relationship with his sons and daughters who were created to reflect His image. In each case, provision, blessing, safety and right relationship with God required worship and obedience. There was something special about living according to God's precepts and commandments to receive His divine blessings of favor, provision, and safety. Knowing and interacting with God reveals His majesty, holiness, and faithfulness. It opens human eyes, ears, and hearts to sense eternity with Him and in Him.
God's covenants benefit those who are receptive to Him and willing to follow and obey His commandments and instructions. They understand that obeying God is for their own good! He shows fatherly love to them. He is also God of order and holiness. This is God's way of having relationship with Him. We will discover how the New Covenant has become the New Normal way of life.
God could have created a human computer that only spits back what it is programmed to do. The first homework assignment for computer programmers is usually to display the words "Hello World," but what God wants is a willingness to greet Him each day:
"Hello Daddy God. How delightful to know you. You are my chief joy. I sing your praises. I love reading, listening to, and applying your words every day!"
A covenant is more than a list of agreements. It is a relationship, like a marriage. A marriage can only succeed with mutual love, trust, responsibility, commitment, humility, faithfulness, integrity, and self-sacrifice. A healthy marriage can bear fruit.
Marriage requires teamwork. There is always someone who has your back, to whom your success matters because each person's success contributes to the team's success. Your faithful partner is committed during the good times and the bad, praying for you every step of the way.
